Hello woud,
I just had a look onto the linked Page and to me it seems totally made up.
For example there are listed Tonfa and Sai as weapons of the Kunigun Ninja. Such weapons are more common in the Kobudo of the Ryukyu islands, not in Ninjutsu.
Stances are partly looking as if taken from Karate or so and in the "events-area" there`s a karate tournament. This doesn`t have necessarily to say something about the background of course.
Nevertheless in the "Kunigun`s History-area", there are quotations and knowledge from books of other authors about Ninjutsu in general, but I just couldn`t find anything about the Kunigun itself there. Well, maybe I just didn`t find it though it`s there?
There a video (see following Link) with a "technique of the week" and there are things we should think about: 1. It`s not that spectacular if you take extremely dry wood (as often done for that it breaks very easy) 2.Everytime before he strikes, the man with the staff looks closely at its end - maybe it`s marked for certain reason (what reasons could these be?)Link: Large-Fire-Kata (breaking wood on body)
From Hinin to Samurai?Even the ranks are strange.
Hinin or Eta is a class that is until today seen as inferior to "normal" persons as they are doing the work of butchers and other things that are "not clean" as the japanese people think.
I think it was in the seventies that a law was made which allowed persons from such families to let delete from documents there they are coming from. That was as for example a couple could be divorced after years just by finding out that husband or wife was a descendant of such a Hinin/Eta family.
Bushi means just warrior, while Samurai is a relativly clear distuingable member of the warrior class with certain attributes.
Therefore with the ranks you are growing from a nonhuman person to become a warrior and then to become a "serving" warrior. The grade of Kunoichi (=female Ninja) is then after you are already a Samurai again a step back to the Hinin - as the Ninja were Hinin, no matter how rich, acknowledged for their ability,... some might have been.
Being a member of the Bujinkan, my advice is to take care that the books you read are at least from members of the Bujinkan (or the Grandmaster himself, of course), the Genbukan, the Jinenkan or from Stephen K. Hayes` Toshindo.
Greetings from Berlin, Germany, EuropeWilf

I'm gonna have to agree with the previous 2 replies. Especially the okinawan kobudo piont. Ninja developed their own weaponry, not saying that some of it didn't cross over, like the kama (scythe).

Whoohoo - I've just been banned from Ashida Kims forums for telling him all of the above. The truth really does hurt I guess.

Nope you're not, just thought I'd mention it. It's just a shame you can't post a negative opinion on Ashida Kim's forum without being banned that's all. I just thought it was annoying as I was in the middle of a conversation with some one on a touchy subject and the next time I went there a "you are banned" page popped up.
