A friend of mine at work has a son who will be turning 13 soon.
She asked a number of men she respects to write something for him. She wanted it to be a life lesson from our expeirience. It was a neat idea. I'll share what I wrote. Feel free to add your own advice to the young folks on the site. Here goes.


Work hard. In the long run it's easier than being lazy.
Wealth. Understand how much you need and what real wealth is.
Weather the storms. They come and go.
Win. Compete. Get in the game. It is good for mind and body.
Weep. It is a path to compassion.
Wash well. Hygiene is a good thing.
Wear a seatbelt.
Wear a helmet.
Wait, till you are married. If you choose not to…
Wear a condom.
Walk away. A fight that doesn’t happen is a fight you win
Work it out. If you are wrong admit it. If you are right no one needs to know
With others, build supportive relationships.
Welcome people. (It feels good when people do it for you doesn't it.)
Water. Drink a lot.
Wine. When you are of legal age, drink some.
Watch a river. Relax, take your time.
Wed. If you find "the girl" get married. It can increase your lifespan.
Wonder. Stay curious. Keep your mind active.
Weaknesses. We all have them. Work on yours. Forgive them in others.
Worry. It is a bad habit. Take action instead.
Worship. Choose to worship truth, excellence, God, or all three…

anything but yourself.




It's your turn.

When things get tough, ask for help. You don't have to fly solo.

Excellent words oldman. I would add some,but I'm afraid words of wisdom only come from the wise.

1. never borrow or lend substantial amounts of money to/from friends

2. Be willing to trust, but prepared for betrayal.

3. Do everything in your power to travel and experience the world

4. A pretty face is nothing if masking an ugly soul

5. Set up a private pension scheme before you reach 25.

6. Learn to hold your liquor. People laugh with drunks for a short time, and behind their backs at leisure.

7. be yourself, let like minded people into your life as they appear. Quality of company is preferable to quantity.

8. Never chase buses or women, you always get left behind.

9. Never welch on a bet or promise, let your word be worth gold.

10. Never make foolish wagers

11. Live within your means, aspire but do not envy.

12. Be kind to animals

13. learn to forgive, or at least not to hate

14. Listen to your parents- they are invariably right

15. Accept that you will make mistakes, but only make each mistake once.

Thats about it.

I thought oldman was keeping a trend with the "W" thing but I guess it was just me.

heh - here goes from ye "good" old 16 yr old -

never never never ever take drugs - not even at parties or a try out

same with ciggies

comdoms = weapons of mass protection

advice is something someone offers u - its for u to consider and up to u to follow it

if ur chinese - then good on u - u spend much much less money on alcohol than everyone else cos u get drunk more easily

puking can be one of the most embaressing things to do at a party (ive never drank enough to puke but many of my friends have...)

SAVE UR MONEY EVEN IF U HAVE AN INCOME - my mum has put my child benifit money in my bank account ever since i was entitled to it - 16 years ago...i have something like £12,000 inside and i only found out yesturday :S

chase the bus if its a long trekk and u have money to spare - i cant remember the amount of times ive takin that leap (or sprint) and have shaved off large amounts of minutes off of my journy

seriously...rinse out the skool while u can - use there printers, computers materials EVERYTHING while u still can! remember - its taxpayers money - u might as well make use ur moneys worth!

experience is invaulable (dammit i cant even spell)

travel before u get bogged down with being an adult and a job etc and tryin out local delicatcies....and try chicken feet its nice - sounds nasty but its nice...and frogs legs...

if ur late and desperate and ur with friends in a friendly area - thumb a lift - 99% of the time it doesnt work but for the effort thats needed to carry out a thumbs up its worth the 1% of a chance to get that ride (geez did that paragraph even make sense?!)

hate can be a gd thang...its can be a fuel for boost ur performance tho dont let it consume u

...take pictures...of friends, family everyone - ive captured many moments that make me laugh, smile or reminess jus from pressing that button...

well thats my lot done - i wouldve done more but its 12:30 pm now...and im bloody knackered!!
i know a lot of u may look at my list and jus think "wat a f**ing p****!" but its what made me happy....among other things i hav forgotten about and havnt listed lol
