I don't know how many people will have come across this long article, but I found it very interesting. It is written by Wong Shun Leung himself, describing his close friendship with Bruce Lee. It covers Lee in his youth, his training techniques, comparisons of fighting methods etc. Well worth the read

edit: by the way, does anyone know what is being referred to in talk of "steel bars" for wrist strengthening?

The steel bars are just heavy, well, steel bars. The idea is to twirl them in different motions to strengthen the forearm. Larry Hartsell shows how to use them in his book on grappling and conditoning

This is prob what Leung is talking about. JMO
I have heard of WC fighters using heavy metal pole to add resistance to punching. Holding them up, and slowly making the motion of punch. I don't think this is 100% effective, since it will pull you down rather than horizontal resistance.

maybe lie on your back!

I thought it was quite interesting to see the kind of attitude Lee had, seemed pretty troubled in many ways. Some interesting comments on how he might have been getting habituated to less effective techniques towards the end
