Hi,

Sorry if this topic is still here, but I can't find it.

Does anyone know if this style is taught in Canada anywhere?

Thanks,

I know of 2 instructors in Canada that teach Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito. They do not teach publicly. They do not have web sites. They do, however, accept students every now and again.

Knowing where you live would be helpful. Canada is an awfully big place!

I live near Toronto

Do you think these guys are expensive? Or they just don't teach a lot of people?

I mean, one way or another, I want to train in the style, but if it's too expensive, I probably wont' be able to get that much training

If you want to train with either of them, cost won't be an issue if you are dedicated and serious. It won't be free, but arrangements can be made for serious students.

The closest Matsumura Seito Instructor(That I personally know/recommend) is Tristan Bonaventura(Yondan). She lives and works in Ottawa. I know that that is some distance from Toronto. If you are truly interested or have specific questions, please pm or email me. I would be glad to give you some more info.

It would take me 5 hours to drive to Ottawa, but it might be possible sometime.

What do you mean by serious? I'm not sure what training in this particular style would involve.

Cobra, do you currently train in any style? If you do, you either train seriously and are dedicated or you dabble in it. Either one is fine, as it suits your personal needs. If yo DO train seriously, you know exactly what I mean.

Oldman, I'm sorry to say that i do not know any MSSR teachers in KC. I'm glad you have an interst, I wish that I could help

Still doesn't explain what you mean by serious. I've trained in Canada for about 15 years, and I teach. As well, I tend to practice on my own. I sweat and sometimes my body hurts from the striking I do against the Makiwara, Heavy Bags, Speed Bag, etc.

If by serious do you mean I have an interest in Karate, yes, I do. I wouldn't be asking about this style if I wasn't

At the same time, I don't know if I wanna be knocked out in my first training session, or even at all. I would prefer I not be DAMAGED. Seriousness is relative.

Sounds to me like your serious enough, and not just one of those that say "yeah I take kuh-rotty".

We are generally not in the habit of abusing or damaging our students, especially those that truly want to learn what is one of the few true "family" arts left.

PS Take it easy on hurting yourself on the bag and makiwara. You'll hate yourself for it when your old. Trust me on this

I don't know any geographical locations in kansas, but I know some people that do this style in Augusta and Haysville, if that helps at all.

For Matsumura Seito, I can recommend The Okinawan Karate Dojo in Larned, KS. Probably a few hours from KC. Web site: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Stadium/8823/dojo.htm

This is really awesome. I've studied Seito Matsumura since i was young, and recieved my black belt in it. I love this style. IT's not just "karate" it's nothing like shuri ryu, or shoto kan, or even tae kwon doe, this style has been such a big part of my life. It's a wise choice for a Martial Art style.

Excellent Raiden. I'm very glad that Matsumura Seito has become such an integral part of your life.

It is one of the few true "family" arts that remain, and in my opinion, very special.

If you don't mind my asking, where and with whom do you study?
