Hi RangerG, I find your posts to be very mature and respectful and I thankyou for that. Could you explain Krav Maga to me(just basically)What the system is for and how it's taught.I would greatly appreciate it.I've heard they do knife fighting and I'd be interested.I just have basic knowledge(if that)of knife offences and defences. Thanks alot!!

Thank you for your kind words.
Perhaps this link will explain Krav better than I may, and also give you an idea of the Krav organization here in PA.

Edited to add: SANCHIN, we only train in knife defense, not offense. My offensive knife skills are from the military, and from the consultant to the movie "The Hunted". It is called the Wolverine Knife Fighting Technique and is a Native American based system modified by Tom Brown of NJ using his style knife.

I'll give you one thing. At least KM doesn't overlook the importance of being physically fit for self defense! Alot of schools don't emphasize this near enough. Some, you would reach blackbelt and never even break a sweat! But not mine

yeh, know what you mean, i do a style very much like Krav Maga... and im not saying its better, but probably does require a bit more finesse than many KM skills, it sorta took it to the next level for me, great system though, i love the utilisation of everyday objects such as pens, ashtrays ect., but might i add, that to teach knife defense, you must teach realistic knife attack to give the student an understanding of advantages and dis advantahes of certain defences... not by telling them, but by showing, and i know some KM schools that do incoperate knife attack into the system, if only for educational purposes.

I think ma schools should require you to maintain a certain level of fitness. What's the use in developing skills when you get winded in 15 seconds?

exzactly, MA werent developed for the common person, they were developed for soldiers (in most cases) and as such were already used by people with good physical condition. I have never trained at a school that hasnt mantained a suitable fitness within all its students.. and no, i dont think 30 situps and 30 pushups counts as exercise...

Well if you are saying the common people of their time weren't in shape you are wrong. Back then most common people would be in better shape then alot of us here. Why? Because they did everything themselves and most of it was very physically demanding. There was not the technology we have now and people couldn't afford to be lazy. It is true that some martial arts were created for the warriors/soldiers. However many were created by farmers to defend themselves against bandits, soldiers trying to capture the village etc.
Just thought I'd point that out.
