Hey, do any of you know of any good sites to learn the art of nunchucku? I really have gotten into them lately, but I dont know how to do anything but cause myself pain so far. I could also use any experience, tips, or advice. If any of you could help out, I'd aprreciate it. Thanks a bunch!

My best tip is to join a good club and learn from an instructor. Sites and books will never replace the eyes and experience of an instructor. Its just as easy to learn bad technique as correct technique.

Thanks, but unfortunately I live in the middle of nowhere, and there are no places near to get that kind of instruction. I have actually done pretty well so far by myself, and even if I cant see my teacher, a nice book or site could at least give me an idea of where to go with my training. I also have a another question about the art of nunchaku: What muscles are the most vital to be conditioned? Thanks again for your time, fellow MA's!!!

Flipping & swinging the nunchaku is only a part of the art. Blocking, striking & grabbing are the other overlooked techniques. This is a DANGEROUS weapon, not a toy to show off with. Yesterday a 13 y/o little league player hit a 15 y/o on the head w/ a bat. Nunchaku have been clocked @ over 100 MPH. That kind of hit could kill (just like the bat).

what nunchuks have you got??? start off with the foam ones!!

I learned on the real thing - cord & hexagonal. I learned to RESPECT the weapon again & again. It was never a toy or something to show-off with.

I started with the Demura book. It's about $12. Excellent place to start - lots of drills, and he shows you how to use it, not how to just twirl it. Interestingly enough, when I actually started training with people from my school, I found that they mainly used it for show - choking up on the handle to make it swing faster.

My personal opinion is the nunchaku is a fun weapon to play with, but I would prefer to use my hands than use a nunchaku in an actual confrontation. I'd have a better chance of not hurting the other guy with my hands. Having said that, I've enjoyed learning to be showy with the nunchaku, but it's not my favorite weapon.
