Reiki Professional Poster Registered: 05/30/02 Posts: 3400 Loc: MiddleEarth	the 6ft "wooden pole thing" is a bo the shorter 3-4ft version is a jo and there is an even shorter one called a hanbo which is like a longer escrima/arnis/kail stick. Which one do you mean?

Anonymous Unregistered	And the 8-to-9-ft one used in Europe was referred to variously as a "short staff" (to distinguish it from the "long staff", which was as long as a pike) or "quarterstaff" (which referred to the way it was primarily used--holding it at one end--a quarter--and making total use of its reach).
