I was practicing with a manrikigusari (sp?) basically, it is a chain about 3 or 4 feet long with two steel handles on either end. on the end of the handles is steel knobs and that is what you attack with. Well, I was practicing with it, and working on a spin. The chain caught my elbow, making the overall length of the weapon significantly shorter than what it should have been. Cracked me righ in the knuckles with the end of it. Has been five days, and they are STILL sore. I must have hit a pressure point in doing so, because my entire hand went numb and I couldn't even feel that I had dropped the weapon. Quite strange.

Just thought I'd share that with you. Figured you'd find it humerous. I laughed after I got feeling back in my hand.

Ouch that would hurt. I have had similer things happen when I started working with a kusarigama I miscalculated and the weighted end caught me in the leg. It was strange as I didnt feel anything until about ten minutes later.

I would say that it would hurt just a bit...

But I did something worse. I'm a male and used to have a fascination with nunchucks when I was younger. I was experimenting with them and twisted my arm just the wrong way where it cracked me right between the legs. I have since lost my fascination for them. Oh man that would hurt, chuks are evil!!!!! I find it wrong that they outlawed nunchuks as a weapon yet the law dont outlaw guns or swords. The weapon I prefer is the sai. I remember one guy done a bo form and wasnt watching he did a strike upward and caught another guy between the legs. Hehee

Owwie. I once had a student knock himself out with a pair of my chucks, lol. Tagged himself square in the back of the head. Another friend of mine hit himself in the nuts with 'em. Quite comedic stuff. I cracked myself in the knee pretty good once with a sectional staff. Yesterday I got shanked in the forearm with the tip of a practice sword, lol. Weapons training is painful business.

I know what you mean. If you accidentally shoot a gun and it hits someone, you're more than likely going to kill them or hospitalize them. On the other hand, if you accidentally hit someone with a pair of 'chuks, you'll at best leave a bruise. I seriously think this is one of the stupidist laws that has ever been written. I think the only realistic reason for outlawing chuks would be because they are easy to get past metal detectors, easy to get onto a plane or a low level security area. They are just as lethal as any other weapon. But a bokken is the same way,so is a cane. Some places you can get sai made of wood to but they dont outlaw them. Next thing you know they are going to outlaw MA or maybe the almighty PEN. Which btw is just as lethal as a gun if used correctly.

The first weapon I learned (way before MA) was the bull-whip - a 16 footer. Believe me when I tell you that it does take a little practice and you WILL give yourself some welts before you get the hang of it. You snake it out behind you and without proper technique and you bring it forward it'll catch your leg, side or arm.
