You're still moving forward with the boxing blast. It is initiated out of a forward facing, modified boxing structure.
The boxing blast is just a straight blast thrown with horizontal fists from more of a boxing structure.
You throw the jab/cross combo which because of your forward motion and footwork, then becomes a series of alternating crosses.
It seems awkward until you actually do it.
If you want to see it executed perfectly, watch the UFC fight between Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva. I can't remember which one that is now, but Belfort blows Silva across the octagon (about 25 to 30 feet) with it. And that's no small task.
Timing is important, just as it is with the straight blast.

While reading JKogas's post, he took the words right out of my mouth. That match was a great example, Vitor took him all the way across the octagon, definately worth the rent.

Both the boxing blasts and the regular straight blasts has its advantages and disadvantages, but I like the footwork of the boxingblasts because I think it is easier to put bodyweight into the punch.
I like the regular blasts because I think it's easier to control the centerline, and deflect an incoming attack.
However I found that incorporating the footwork of the boxing blasts into the regular blasts, and adding a little hip rotation will provide almost the same extra power, while using the angle of the regular straight blasts will make it easier to control the centerline.
Anybody else had experience with this? I have found it quiet useful.

is this another matter of not fitting a square peg into a round hole?? not using leg kicks from grappling range and not punching from 17 feet away? sometimes the boxing blast is better suited, other times not, either way we never use what doesnt work. also dont eat yellow snow.

exactly my point. But I just believe that the good thing about the boxing blast are the extra power, and the good thing about the regular blast are the ability to easier deflect an attack of off the centerline, and in my experience both can come to use by simply changing the footwork of the regular blasts... ok, admitted, it's not a regular blast anymore then, but hey, you probably know what I mean

vertical, horizontal, who cares. However, i've seen some videos of Emin Boztepe doing some of his wing chun (with vertical fists)and it is SCARY. Fast as a buzzsaw. musta punched him seventy times in a couple seconds.

You can't PUNCH seventy times in a couple seconds, you can however strike that many times in about ten seconds.

I thought it does matter if the punch is verticle or horizontal for bone alignment and it does not effect speed unless you finish the punch the way it was started?
