you need to find a good teacher to help cultivate the chi sao. Chi Sao is not about trapping your opponent its about developing an understanding and a sensitivity of energy transfer. anyone can trap someone yet it is a great skill to see the trap coming and to counter attack without using much force at all or using there own force against them.

Correct. While you can use Chi sao to trap effectively, it is a sensitivety drill. The main goal is to develope sensitivity in the hands so that when you make contact with the opponent you can tell which way he plans to direct his energy. Then you use that information against him.

so its pretty important to get that sensitivety thing happening. so you can learn trapping without chi sao exersises? is it circular motions of the hands?

You could learn trapping without doing the chi sao, but it's highly reccommended to do it. You really need someone to show you how to do it. There's a DVD on Wing Chun that explains it quite well. The one done by Wong Shun Leung. Also, James Lee's Wing Chun Kung Fu book explains it pretty decently, but it'd still be better to find someone that really knows what they're doing and get them to show you.
