#134368 - 02/14/05 12:11 PM What is the best MA for me as a start?

This is the first time I have posted a topic and I have read alot of the forms and have read some books to (the best I think was "The Fighting Arts" by Howard Reid and Michael Croucher), I just want to get some advice befor I jump into this. What is the best MA for me? I am 6'2 180 and a little athletic. I want to learn a soft art and ones that I thoght looked good where T'ai-chi and Karate. The main reson I want to learn is because I love to push myself and I want to be the best I can. Not only do I want to push mysself phisicly I want to mentaly what would be a MA that would involve philosophy and would help me calm my mind. One problem is that I live in Alaska so I don't have much choice and I also worry about finding a good teacher. Anyway any advice I get will help out alot, thanks.

Thank you I didn't think anyone would answer me. You gave me info that will be usefull and I will try my best at geting into this in a way that is right for me. I am good for what I whant to know, the only way I will learn now is to go out and get to it. I was wondering if anybody was willing to share there story about the first time they took a MA class. If anybody has a funny or intresting stoy about there first time in a dojo I would love it and it would give me something to reflect on. I took a class once when I was very young with my aunt. I remember it well because I was only there one day. they took me to a room with alot of other young kids and I started crying and I couldn't stop. Everyone thoght it was because I wanted my mom but it wasn't, there was something strange about that place and I didn't like it. It may sound funny but I knew there was something wrong and I hade to get out of there. I never herd if there was anything wrong about that place so I gess it was silly but I always trust my gut.
