Greetings,
I am looking for 8x10 photo's of successful women in the martial arts. For men, I have Bruce & Brandon Lee, David Caradine, Jackie Chan and a few other's but am having no luck with the women! As a female, it is a wonderful thing to have a strong role model when we are young (and old for that matter). I would like these for our small "dojo" in our community center. My gals need heros too! Anyone know where I can find such photos?
Thanks so much, Sensei Sharyl

Sharyl,
Has it occured to you that you are a role model for the female students?

My daughter's heroine is Suzie, the wife of Mark from these forums (with good reason). She is a 4th Dan and my daughter wants to be just like her. It doesn't have to be someone famous.

I guess Fang Qiniang is more of a historical figure, but for anyone to invent completely new thinking in martial arts by watching cranes fight and then master the technique without a teacher, only to become a legend, unbeatable by all women and men, no matter how strong, has got to be an inspiration to anyone. Not sure where you get a photo though : ) but there must be at least illustrations of her somewhere.

May I also suggest Diane Tanaka, who I think is now a 6th degree Black Belt in American Kenpo. I've had the priveledge of training with her at Camp Kenpo, and consider her one of MY role models. She is listed in "The Journey" which doucments the careers of 20 of the most promineny American Kenpoists, teaches in San Fancisco and trains in a couple of other styles the last I heard. A very good model for those coming up.
