Karate is not a family activity. It's individual.

Keep the parents off the mat.

They can look but not interfere.

They don't stay on the entire time, just for a segment of a class. Trust me I've been doing it for years and both the parents and students love it

Fine, you're running a kindergarden though.

If it's meant to be a martial arts school, keep the parents off the mat and away from influencing their kids training while they're under your instruction.

I'm new here, mainly a tire kicker but this one sparked my interest. I am an 8th Gup training in Tang Soo Do. He highly encourages kids to train as well as parents to visit and watch. However, the kids are not given an inch. Last night while sparring one youth was hit a little hard and began to cry. His parents were in attendance and after my instructor made sure he wasn't really hurt, all he said was 'shake it off and welcome to karate class.'

Tang Soo!

KarateB.

I think it's a good idea, bu the parents shouldn't be trying to help the kids unless they have previous karate experience. Get the kids to bring their parents along to train. I mean if there sitting there for one and a half hours watching there kids do Karate they ayaswell jump in. I know many parents join because there kids do it, and this further encourages them to do so.

Having a fellow family member doing a martial art with you helps immensly in your training. Simply because you have someone to train with at home, someone to talk martial arts with at home, and someone who can to a certaine xtent tell you what your doing wrong when you train at home.
