The Last Samurai wasn't exactly realistic either. No it didn't have people flying but it wasn't really authentic either.

Hero was made in traditional Chinese form. Very similar to the way many of the early films were done, the same ones you would see on "Kung Fu Theater". The film style was derived from Chinese theater, the wirework carried over to the movies. The movie had a very good story line, it's just not the type of movie most American teens want to see these days.

True, "The Last Samuri was a great film, no argument there! But "Hero is a foreign film, and the perspective on life in general is probably different overseas than it is in Hollywood. Like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" "Hero" is beautifully filmed, the scenery is breath-taking, the acting is excellent and most of the fight scenes are quite spectacular. Sure, the flying sequences stretch the imagination, but such theatrics are common among Chinese martial art films. (As laf has pointed out). OK, so it has subtitles, big deal. It was still a great film.

If you understood where the 'flying people' originates from it would not seem so rediculous to you.

Hero is nothing special as a martial arts movie, its got some good looking scenese but it pales compared to other movies of the sort.

Hero is one of the most beautiful looking films ever made.

The production value is enormous. The costume is the best on any MA films ever, matching the mood and locations perfectly. The acting is to a standard that doesn't detract from the story. The fight scenes are well executed and beautifully shot.

The only letdown is the slight lack of depth in the storyline. The characters are a tad 2 dimensional, but so what? This was never meant to be War & Peace, but a simple story of a simple man's journey to do one single deed.

In terms of MA films through history, this is very important piece of work.
