A couple of years ago the BBC aired a Docu series called "Way of the Warrior" , I believe it was 8 episodes Is there anyone who taped it when it was aired and is in the oportunity to capture it by means of a TVcard? My own copy was terrible to begin with because at that time the BBC cablesignal was lousy at best on top of that the tape has deteriorated

I have the companion book to the series and have ALWAYS wanted to see the video, esp the sections with Otake sensei and Master Hung of Taiwan.
Any source for this would really be appreciated!

Hi Guys
I am fortunate to have most of the series which I orginally recorded on Betamax. Betamax was technically superior to VHS at the time so the picture quality is still very good.
For some time I have planned to transfer these to DVD. I now have all the necessary equipment to do a good job. I just need to set aside some time to do it.
If you're still interested let me know which episodes you want and I can get in touch with you once theyre done - hopefully by the end of the month (June 2004).
Cheers

Hi Guys
Just to give you an update on this. I can confirm that I have ALL eight episodes. Ive almost finished transferring them to digital format via a professional digital enhancer. This has improved the clarity and colour balance of the originals.
I now just need to spend a while creating the menus and backgrounds for the DVD etc.
As I'm busy with other work commitments this may take me a few weeks longer.
Eventually I will also transfer the whole series to VHS for those that may want this.
I will also be able to do an NTSC version on DVD and VHS.

I would very much like to get a copy of entire series as well, but...
Wouldn't this all be a violation of copyright law? And, here we all are discussing this where any Federal agent could see it as long as they signed up for the forum. I don't know if this would be illegal in UK, however.

I've been looking for that series on and off for a number of years. I would like a copy as well and know of quite a few others who would as well. I'm in the States so NTSC would be great. -Tony

There are no indictations that the BBC intend to make this series available on DVD or VHS or re broadcast it. Which is a shame as so many people are interested in it.
As I understand it, it is illegal to make a profit from commerical re-selling of a previously broadcast program. However in the case of home taping (as far as the UK is concerned) it is OK to make copies of a show for friends etc and recover costs. Maybe the law is different in the USA.

Thanks for your work. After a search from time to time I'm surprised and happy to found somebody who has this series. :-) I'm very interessted i get a copy of your DVD version, thanks again.
.PS NTSC or PAL, today the most DVD player plays both so I think all can be happy with a single PAL or NTSC version, right?
Best regards from Berlin Lars

Hi Guys, I would very much like all the episodes of The Way of The Warrior as well. Board Room please can you arrange to send me a DVD copy and I will of course cover all your costs such as postage & package etc. It will be very much appreciated. On another note, is everyone aware of a new documentary on BBC Three called Mind, Body & Kick Ass Moves? It is a 10 episode series aired on Mondays from 9 to 10pm and repeated on Wedsnesdays. Check out the BBC Three Web site for details.

Hi Everyone
Just wanted to check in and let you know I havent forgotten about this.
I apologise for the delay in getting the DVD finished - apart from urgent work deadlines to meet, I had a few unexpected glitches with the PC software. I'm pleased to say this has now been sorted.
Hopefully will get the project completed this week.
Thanks to all of you for your interest.
B R
PS the new series on BBC 3 is very good and entertaining too! I'm recording all the episodes straight to DVD. So after 5 weeks I'll have the complete series in case anyone misses it.

I'd also love to get this series on dvd. I practice Shorinji Kempo and have been looking for that particular episode ever since I heard it existed. I would also be interested in seeing the other episodes.
I will be more than happy to cover any costs etc and look forward to hearing from you.

Would be really grateful, been after it for years, but no-one ever seems to have whole series. Bought the book of the series at the time, but no access to videos then. Happy to pay reasonable fee for your time etc.

Hi
The series was made in 8 parts which featured top Masters of each system. Each part lasts approx 35-40 minutes so the total content is approx 5˝ hours long. It is not intended as a training tutorial. It is a documentary going into the rich historical background, philosophy, methods and practices of each system. Each part has numerous footage of demonstrations, explanations and practical applications. Whatever martial art system you may be studying I am sure you will find this series very absorbing and inspiring.
The series is comprised of:
1 Shorinji Kempo 'The New Way'
2 Kalari 'The Indian Way'
3 Aikido and Kendo 'The Sporting Way'
4 T'ai Chi 'The Soft Way' - also included Hsing Yi and Ba Gua
5 Eskrima 'The Philippino Way'
6 Karate 'The Way of the Empty Hand'
7 Kung Fu 'The Hard Way'
8 The Samurai Way

Hi Guys
Since the message boards were upgraded several threads were unfortunately lost in the process* so I've reposted this info for those who are not familiar with this series...
The series was originally broadcast by the BBC in the early 1980's and was comprised of 8 episodes which featured top Masters of each system. Whichever martial art system you may be studying this is a very absorbing and inspiring series.
The series is comprised of:
1 Shorinji Kempo 'The New Way'
2 Kalari 'The Indian Way'
3 Aikido and Kendo 'The Sporting Way'
4 T'ai Chi 'The Soft Way' - also included Hsing Yi and Ba Gua
5 Eskrima 'The Philippino Way'
6 Karate 'The Way of the Empty Hand'
7 Kung Fu 'The Hard Way'
8 The Samurai Way
I'm pleased to say that I was fortunate to have recorded and kept all 8 episodes. Some time ago I finished the task of transferring them from Betamax tape to DVD. So this great treasure of a series has been preserved! If you're interested drop me an email.

Hi
I am happy to have found this page. I"ve been searching a long time for this series. I found the last 4 parts on a DVD by bitorrent, but I really need the first 4 parts as soon as possible.
In particular, I need program 4 of the series, the one on TaiChi and bagua in Taiwan.
Could you or anyone possibly help me out?
Jimbo
