#123129 - 12/31/04 12:59 PM Sabaki (open combat) to replace TKD in Olympics?

Since there are 2 many sports in the Summer Olympics as it is.....why not replace TKD (since the politics are so bad ATF ITF WTF JTF)..with an open Sabaki Style encompassing event?.....Then there's kicks, clinches, punching, takedowns, sweeps....then TKD, Karate, MT, Kung FU..could all compete openly.

Especially after the sloppy showing at the was the worst I've seen.

that would be cool! to be able to fight no holds barred, but that being said then everybody would want to fight! i cant wait till im old enough to compete, by then i hope ill be pretty good!

I see where your coming from Cactusmat, but there is more to it than that. NHB can be fun to watch, but in an olympic sport, there has to be structure. TKD, while not perfect, has this structure. TKD is a great base from which to learn to fight, but it is also a sport. "Sport" TKD has definable techniques that require specific skills to execute properly. To win a TKD match, you must perform these techniques well, not just knock your opponant around. Without the rules that govern the use of these techniques, it would just be a fight. A "fight", in and of itself, is not neccessarily always a "sport". Hope this long-winded speech has made the point I intended to make. er...what was my point again? Oh well, I'm sure its in there someplace. [IMG][/IMG] Peace! Matt

Look at Olympic Boxing and the speed tag it has turned into.

I quite agree Fletch...Olympic boxing is a disgust 1/2 the time. Judges are clearly missing many of the subtle shots...afraid to register...only scoring looping shots where the head moves.

I wasnt quite thinking MMA...but a combined stand-up class.....personally I think Karate should be in there if TKD is.....why not combine all the stand up "basics"....

I dont think MMA will ever hit the Olympics as it is..- too violent for the general public....boxing has a hard enough time staying legal....
