#121718 - 08/12/04 02:33 AM Toi-Gye

If your familiar with this form, then you'll hopefully be able to help me.

After the jump, X-block, reinforced block and low double knife hand....... there is a ciurcular type block. Then, low double knife hand block to the right. Stance change to front and a left hand circular block... switch to left leg leading front stance, and do a right hand circular block....switch right leg to lead foot in front stance, and do a left hand circle block.

My questions are these. First what are the circular type blocks called.
More important than that though, while exucuting these blocks, what type of attack are we supposed to be defending against, and also were is our opponent. Or another way to put my question, which way should I be looking, and at what level. Head, body, or legs?

Hi Greg.

From my experience

The circular block you refer to is a Dollyimyo Makgi (Spelling may be incorrect).
One application for these blocks are to pick up an opponent's low front kick
and dump the leg away from your centre line, causing a loss of balance to your opponent.
These blocks are performed at a 45 degree angle, away from your front leg, so you should be looking along the line of your block.

There is a very good book for all styles of TKD which also covers the patterns in depth, together with movement applications.

Taekwondo: Tradition, Philosophy, Technique - Marc Tedeschi

Hope this helps as a start.

Yes, that answered my question. The attack is a front kick coming from a 45degree angle from your front foot.

Thank you.

I just realized that I need help on the object of another move.

The jump, and then X block towards the ground. What direction is the attack coming from (our front side, I'm assuming)? What type of attack is it?
