Ok so heres the thing
While sparring last friday a blackbelt in my class was using what he called a hook kick i always thought it was called a heel kick but whatever
he would keep using it to the opponents face and to the back of their head.
Hes a freind of mine but hes being a little bit of a pric cause he wont show me how excactly its done.
so my question is this

How do you perform a hook/heel kick i mean every little movement that goes into a powerful one.

I tryed to do it against of heavy bag but i ether loose balance or perfom it really weak.

appreciate the replys

You know how to do a hook kick.

The power comes from the way you use your hips and how you chamber your leg. This medium is difficult to highlight properly.

Watch how the hips whip round and forward by opening during the movement.

Balance can be better achieved by:
1) leaning into the kick more.
2) keeping your hands/arms closer to your body.

Practice.

Budo.

As said in another thread, the power high kicks video shows this technique.

my tkd instructor taught me the following method for delivering a hook/heal kick.
if you stand against a rail or even a wall, your left side to the wall, you will be throwing the kick with your right leg..bring your knee up and touch the wall just like you are going to do a side kick, let your hip "roll over" almost like a cross between a karate side and back kick...lower leg parallel to the ground imagine a straight line coming out of the back of your knee and that is how you aim the kick...no just whip it out a little farther than a side kick and snap it back to strike the target. i classify it as a snapping kick like a round/roundhouse kick...as opposed to a thrusting type side kick for instance. its not really a brute force kick in my opinion not a real "penetrating" kick when used on a heavy bag, but if you get hit with one in the head well.....
