my tkd instructor taught me the following method for delivering a hook/heal kick.
if you stand against a rail or even a wall, your left side to the wall, you will be throwing the kick with your right leg..bring your knee up and touch the wall just like you are going to do a side kick, let your hip "roll over" almost like a cross between a karate side and back kick...lower leg parallel to the ground imagine a straight line coming out of the back of your knee and that is how you aim the kick...no just whip it out a little farther than a side kick and snap it back to strike the target. i classify it as a snapping kick like a round/roundhouse kick...as opposed to a thrusting type side kick for instance. its not really a brute force kick in my opinion not a real "penetrating" kick when used on a heavy bag, but if you get hit with one in the head well.....
