How does a person get to become a moderator????

Usually by practicing moderation.

Moderation as in "temperance" or "forbearence" or "restraint".

When the forum has a need, people volunteer or get volunteered.

The admins then take a look, decide who has shown the ability to wield the vast power that mods are given without succumbing to the dark side.

A ritual is then performed, using a live chicken and sacrificial virgin, the skies turn black, the earth cracks and rumbles and the godlike powers of a moderator are bestowed upon the anointed one.

We are then turned loose upon the unsuspecting masses, who grovel and worship us in our resplendence!
