Last month, I recieved my 3-set samurai swords:
Daito-bigger than a normal katana
Wakazashi-medium size
Shoto-dagger size
Anyway, I also got a Boken. (a wooden sword that is the same length as my Daito)
now the katana is not initially part of my MA, but I would very much enjoy to study and practice, "the way of the sword". should i buy movies, look online for help, or ask my instructor for help on finding help on my swords.
P.S. would it also help me learn if one of my friends and I fight each other with them? (we'll try not to hurt each other that bad!)

No don't swing your swords at other people. When the untrained chop each other up, intenionally or otherwise, it gives all the trained folks coniptions.

You'll never learn anything significant from books or videos. The only way to learn anything real is to find real instruction. The bad news is real training oppurtunities are few and far between. Tell us where you are and perhaps we can help direct you to the legitimate training oppurtunities nearest to you. You're instructor may also be able to help find what's available in your area.

BTW, Daito means big sword. That's all it means litterally. Typically anything refered to as a katana can also be described as a daito. That's why it's the same length as your bokken.
