if you want to take a martial art for self defense, or street protection; don't take a sword art. If you want to learn how to fight with a stick, take a stick-fighting martial art.

If you want to learn to fight with a stick, find someone who teaches Jodo. The bad news is Jodo is meant for fighting people with swords, but some of the same principles apply.
The bad news is that if you were to get into a fight with a stick, you can be tried for assault with a deadly weapon.

Please! Go and join an arnis stick fighting school or someone else who teaches stick and sword work.
Do not try this at home without a teacher, it will only lead to disaster...

The best sword remains in it's scabbard. Think on this. Keigu.

The thing you could do is to AVOID confrontation. Failing that, knowledge in jujitsu or any active unarmed art. Karate, in my experience, only gets you hit harder. A decent wristlock however, the first thing learnt at any jujitsu class, has an incredible effect. Failing that (i.e., not having ANY training whatsoever), things will happen so quickly you wont have a chance to try anything fancy. Put them down by any means necessary and RUN.
Remember however, if you have to fight and its something that could be negotiated, then you've failed somewhere (see last post )

i agree with misticgohan the most here, sadly we dont live in a world were people use swords anymore, people have now come to learn how to pull the index finger over a trigger! wow how tough is that to learn!...anyways, avoid a fight, violence is rarely the answer but when it is, its the only answer, knock them out of commission and run like a nuke is about to land on ur block

I agree. Avoid conflict unless there is no choice. LOL,look at my unmeasureable skill, I can make the tiniest effort to move my finger to pull this metallic thing back so it can kill you for me(Wow,hard). At any rate, you should definitely avoid conflict.
