As mentioned by a post earlier, the sword art seems to be facing a steady decline. Simply ask around and you can see the ratio of Karate/Judo/Tae Kwon Do practitioners compared to students of the sword. One question that has always been asked of me was "What would you do if you don't have a sword?" It is true that the sword faces little to no value in today's world in terms of self defense. The laws of society requires us to leave weapons such as the sword home or designated places. The sword art has become an exercise of the mind, even more so than the body, to help it's practioners develop a powerful spirit. The question is, are there enough dedicated men and women who wish for this kind of training to keep the sword art, as well as other forms of armed combat which has little value today fresh and well received as the prevalent unarmed arts.

Haidong Gumdo is good to train in if you are already familiar with Korean arts.

Hu: Don't loose hope! Did you see the documentary that came out about that modern day gladiatorial society, dedicated to preserving and/ or rediscovering the fighting arts of Roman gladiators? These folks were heavily consulted/ utilized when the movie "Gladiator" was being filmed. THAT stuff's older than any of the Japanese Koryu. There's always a few of us nuts around, willing to see what the ancients got out of swinging a piece of metal around!
