Hi... The followings are chinese quotes that describe fighting techniques... I'll try my best to translate them to english.

yi gong wei shou
"attack to defense"

tai shang yi ri tai sia shi nian
"a performance on stage takes ten years to train"

san shi liu ji, zou wei shang ji
"36 techniques, use the upper(most advantage) technique" this quote means that of all techniques, the best technique is to run away to prevent harm

jian fa mi jue
"secrets of swordplay"
-di yi jing jie, xin jian he yi
"first level, combine your mind with
your sword"-means to weld the sword

-di er jing jie, ren jian he yi
"second level, combine man and sword"
you are the sword, the sword is you.
Feel its pain and pleasure.

-zui gao jing jie, wu ren wu jian
"highest level, sans man, sans sword"
this was interpreted as no violence

Sorry... my englsh's not really good. forgive me.

Oooh, if you throw a brick at the water will that hurt the water, what about when the water hits the brick!

The one quote with which I try to live my daily life and pursue my interest in martial arts, is the one passed on by O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba - THE ONLY VICTORY WORTH ACHIEVING IS VICTORY OVER ONESELF - I guess if I could only follow one, it would be the one I'd follow. Kanukgirl

The extra days you don't train... Your enemy does

Those who are skilled in combat do not become angered, those who are skilled at winning do not become afraid. Thus the wise win before they fight, while the ignorant fight to win.

If you are looking for a book that holds a lot of good quotes, and many great sayings...I suggest a book called Budo Secrets, by John Stevens. I just got done with reading it through the second time since my birthday on Wednesday. It is absolutely one of the best books for MAists I have ever read. It has a lot of history in it, and carrys a lot of sayings from a lot of the greats such as: Miyamoto Musashi, Morihei Ueshiba, Kyuzo Mifune, and many more.

I'm not trying to get any book sales for this guy, I dont personally know him, but coming from a MAist, I found this book to be absolutely amazing, and a great insight into the amazing people that made and make the Martial Arts what it is today.

If my decomposing carcass helps nourish the roots of a juniper tree, or the wings of a vulture - that is immortality enough for me. And as much as anyone deserves.

We are afraid to live, But scared to die.

Who chants a doleful hymn to his own death?

And the wild regrets, and the bloody sweats. None knew so well as I that he who lives more lives than one, more deaths than one shall die.

and this last one might be lame but thats becuse it's a quote of my own well here it is...

The blade of a savage kills the blade of a worrir protects,it is the way thy wields and the way thy dies.

Not Asian, but certainly martial, my two favorite martial sayings:

"Lead, follow, or get out of the way!" (Go Rangers!)

"There are no atheists in foxholes."
