***NOTE***
I am cross posting this (also posted in events) as this symposium will have a significant cultural and historical component to it. In addition to martial artists, there will be several academic researchers in attendance and presenting topics of interest.

------------------------------------------

The University of Missouri-St. Louis will host a three-day conference during the weekend of October 19th, 2001 dedicated to investigating the fighting arts of Japan and Okinawa and their relationship to society. The conference is called the "Budo Symposium." The event is designed to be a crossover event involving both academics as well as members of the martial arts community participating in presentations, workshops, demonstrations, and panel discussions. The symposium will involve historians, art historians, philosophers, East Asian studies specialists, martial artists, and others with related interests. We hope to both investigate budo as a cultural phenomenon and to help dispel some of the many misconceptions surrounding it's practice. The symposium is co-sponsored by, among others, the Center for International Studies-UMSL, Center for the Humanities-UMSL, and the Traditional Karate Research Institute. Registration begins soon. Information is available on-line at http://www.budosymposium.org or you can call us at 314-427-1155 and give us your address and we will send information to you.

It would have been nice to get some feedback/reports on this from participants. But since the thread is 4 years old with one reply, I am closing it...but still hoping to hear more.
