Sometimes learning to use the points can be frustrating. Especially when watching others use a small effort and get a huge reaction. The difference is in intent.
Do not confuse intent with focus. Focus helps, but intent is what makes the technique work.
Intent is hard to explain with words, easier to explain with examples. There are many components to intent, one would be visualization. Seeing the effect that you want happen in your mind will increase the effectiveness of the actual technique. This works whether you are striking points or hitting a golf ball. Second when you are hitting a point, don't hit the point...place your mind a foot past the point. One thing that I like to use when striking is to imagine that I am throwing a baseball. IN order to get maximum velocity on the ball you must be relaxed and allow the hand, arm to work together and follow thru. When you strike, pretend that you were going to hit a foot past the point and that it just happened to get in your way.
