What do you think about the article on the front page? Seems to me that the scenarios they gave were like some of the attitudes I've heard here.

Agreed.

I read it and started thinking about what might have been done to try to avoid these situations. I definitely think that the macho posturing that seemed evident in these scenarios escalated things more than was necessary.

I am not trying to be "victim blaming". The perpetrators of these violent acts were absolutely at fault. It just shows very poor decision making (not to mention a lack of understanding of the criminal psyche) on the part of the victim when they choose to view a mugging as a chance to show their girlfriends how tough they are.

May none of this ever happen to you or any of your loved ones.

I just can't see myself or anyone I know being cocky and showing attiude when someone points a gun at them!!! What were they thinking?? The article says they had the mindset that bad things happen to other people not them. They were wrong.

Don't you love it when you run into someone that tells you they would just knock the guy out or worse, take that gun away and "stick it up the bad guy's @$$"?

I deal with the same attitude in some police officers who think that the Badge, Gun, Taser, Baton, Pepper Spray is the answer and will somehow take the place of knowledge, experience and training.

Attitude can be a great thing......in moderation and at the right time.
