Why not both if you could? Find an MMA gym that also teaches a street approach.

I'd say train in the activity that you don't have much skill in. If you can strike pretty well train in wrestling, if you can fight on the ground train in boxing.

If you can do neither, learn to Box 1st, but plan to wrestle.

I'd put my money on muay thai(thai boxing) or even better muay boran.

Wrestling/Brazillian Jiu Jitsu are great for 1v1 situations but if there's more than 1 guy which about 90% of the time there is then u need something like muay thai 2 take them all out, and by the way i rkn all the other martial arts like karate, tkd and related crap are absolutely useless because the conditioning isn't there and most of these type practitioners aren't suited to defence against hooks/straights/jabs, look at their stances they hardly ever guard the head!

I second that. This guy has no clue what he's talking about at all. His sweeping generalisations betray his ignorance.

Go train in both Boxing and Wrestling, you'll be well prepared for most situations if you do.

You should remember that both boxing and wrestling are great for the street but do not confuse street self defense with either. On the street you use whatever tactics that works for the moment.

Right cross, upper cut to a double leg take-down, hopefully he hits cracks head on the fall and you can quickly get up and apply a groin stomp.

You do not want to grapple for any extended period of time on the street and you do not want to box for 20 minutes... Get in get out quickly before the street fight turns into a knife fight with you on the short end and go home and leave the man on his back.

No rules mean evrything applies. So

not to get off topic, but, while i love boxing, i'd feel really uncomfortable with not have any leg techniques. Having seen even dumb street brawls throw kicks to knees and (crappy) footsweeps, i'd be more comfy with having even a few basic kicks in my repetoir (hehe, butchered that word).
