Common Tournament Rules - 06/06/06 04:55 PM

I have decided to compile a list of resources on the most common rules and regulations for common martial sports. The links are by no means universally accepted, and your first job if you are entering a competition is to FIND OUT THE PARTICULAR COMPETITION'S RULES.

However, hopefully this will give you a general picture of how different competition types are run:

We have some guys going to a TKD tournament as we are a Karate dojo what rules set whould this be under?

Sparing
Competitors spar for one 2 minute match. The match is not stopped to award points. 1 point is awarded for any hand or foot technique that makes controlled contact to a legal target area. (Unrecognizable or multiple uncontrolled techniques, flurries will not be scored.) Legal target areas are any protected portion of the head (except the face) and the chest/rib cage/abdomen. Competitor safety is priority. The following are not allowed: Kicking or punching below the belt, to the kidneys, neck, back, or face; sweeping, grabbing or throwing. Points are totaled at the end of the match. Ties are decided by a comparison of warning points
