my 1st full contact tournament - 05/23/06 12:09 AM

My uncle came across an ad on craigslist for a full contact karate tournament with just hand wraps, wrapped shin guards, and head gear (no face protection) All styles are welcome

Me and my Instructor are going to sign up, since I am 14 I am probably going to be in the adults division (since it is adults, kids and seniors.

check out the tournament and tell me what you think

website is

and wish me luck (any tips would be appreciated)

Get some practice with FC if you haven't already. It's a bit different from point-style, if that is all you have done before.

ah when I talked to the guy he said "14 senior" now I understand he meant 40 senior :O

I emailed him and he said 14 is kids, that is really dissapointing. Now I need to wear chest gear and a face mask

On the bright side there might be some tough 14-17 year olds that can still give me a run for my money

PB

The tournament looks standard Kyokushinkai knockdown with the added protection for kids.

Advice;

Download the rules and read them.
Fight under these rules in the dojo a few times to see what does and doesn't work under them.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
