Self-Defence.....the ultimate aim?? - 08/06/01 06:46 PM

Hello,
I wonder what other martial artists get from their training?
Should one of the final goals be to defend ones self??
The topic of self defence is a vast one, with few "no lose" answers.
Any thoughts??

I would hope that ONE of the goals of training would be to defend onseself. While we can debate the relative effectiveness of (enter style here) ad naseum, I would like to think practicing any art makes you better able to defend yourself than if you had no training at all, and I like to think that people who are involved in the arts want to learn to defend themselves, at least on some level.

Although my primary reason for practing karate is not self defense, I do expect to learn aspects of SD that will be useful to me should I be faced with that situation.
