whoa... - 09/20/04 08:48 PM

Now that I got the Neo quote out of the way, I'd like to say Hi. I just found this board through google search and thought that it looks very interesting due to my experience from last night. I have always been interested in meditation and have been messing around with it for about a year or so, but I always thought of ki as something fictional.

Last night, I decided to meditate and try gathering energy(ki ball) within my hands. After only a few minutes, I could feel this magnetic type energy within my hands, it blew my mind. I kept experimenting with it, trying to increase its size, compress it, move it around on certain body parts and the like. At one point, I was able to make the ki ball about the size of a large beach volleyball.

This experience has completely changed my ways of thinking about meditation/ki and I plan to meditate whenever possible now. The funny thing is, when I try to explain to my friends and family about ki actually existing, most of them think I'm nuts or been doing too many drugs. The only person that I can relate to is one of my uncles, who has been into meditation for years now.

I just wanted to know, at this infant point of gathering ki, how can I go about to increase my power to gather ki and what are some useful things to do with it, rather than just play with it? Also, I'd like to know you guys thoughts about ki and the techniques you'd reccommend.

lol - well there are healing arts that use ki such as reiki. you can use ki in a combat situation (not like shooting it at someone) by gathering it in certain parts of your body to take hits better or to hit harder. ive never used it defensivly before but i have offensivly.

In Shotokan, we use Ki quite often; and try to find ways to increase it through training and meditation. We use it mainly for increasing hitting power and resisting blows. However, our way of using it is much more explosive and sharp than most other Martial Arts.

There are even legends of a certain Sensei who had such a strong fighting spirit that he actually defeated an opponent with a Kiai. Whether this is true or not I cannot say, neither can anyone else; but I never dismiss the possibility of anything that I cannot prove false.

Kiai is roughly translated as "spirit shout" in Japanese, and is used to make the Ki explode. Basically, it's a short, monosyllabic (one syllable: "hai" or "ei"; you get the point) yell that is exhaled from the tanden, or area just below the navel, used to add power to strikes and help you withstand blows; basically anything that Ki can be used for in a fight can also be jump-started with a Kiai.

I'd say experimenting would be a good idea too... but training everyday to try and get that ball of energy you made bigger and bigger. If you want to defelp your Ki, you schould try that. But mostly... a good thing is to keep it somewhat more hidden from people thinking you're nuts that you're busy with Ki. That's what I do, and I never got to hear: "Hey, stop the coke over your cereal, dude!"

Focusing too much on developing energy abilities like empty force, is not good. Focus on spirituality and developing your own energy into refined high vibration energy, and such things may come naturally, without possibliliy of side effects or draining your energy. The higher frequencey and vibration the energy the easier such things are to do. High vibration flowing like a wheel, can cultivate the whole body to the highset spiritual levels. Generally, develop quite high energy before attemting to emit it at people or healing.

Also, myself, I practice the Star exercise and tibetan yoga. There are links to sites about it on other threads
