Has anyone used meditation to help deal with depression? If so what type of meditation helped you the most?

I occasionally used a kind of meditation where I met myself in a room or garden and tried to reassure myself it would be OK. Also met my younger self and did the same there, realising the problems of the past could and would be overcome.

There is also something called cognitive therapy which is supposed to be very good

In the Christian church, there is a growing practice known as Theophostic Counseling. Reportedly it has had remarkable results, but don't take my word for it. Buyer beware as it hasn't stood the test of time yet.

You're welcome. Best wishes to your friend.
Incidentally, the technique I used myself was when I had mild depression and was based on something a friend of mine had used. maybe not a good idea to use if one has heavy depression.
