Dynamic stretching.. with ankle weights.. better? - 05/31/07 05:45 PM

Sup people

I have been doing dynamic stretches for a few months.. my kicks are higher than ever.. but theres always room for improvement, right?

Anyway, I just got some ankle weights to use while working out, and I had a thought.. If I wore them while doing dynamic stretches for my legs.. would it make them more effective or just slow down my process?

I believe they can benefit your strength for static active flexibility, but you could end up hurting yourself doing leg swings. Even if done slowly, if you try leg swings again right after taking them off you may end up flinging your leg too far and over-stretching.

I wouldn't use them for anything other than static active stretches.

I see a danger in attempting to compensate for the extra weight and making your stretches ballistic rather than dynamic. Even if you control it well, I can't imagine what improvement it would offer.
