Hello everybody,
I'm sure not everybody are familiar with silat melayu. So, lets me introduce to you guys some of the main silat melayu in Malaysia.
*Seni Silat Gayong .
Seni silat Gayong are among the most practised form of silat in Malaysia. There is almost 20 different styles of Seni Silat Gayong being taught. Among the most popular are Seni Gayung Fatani, Silat Gayong Malaysia, Seni Silat Pusaka Gayong, Seni Silat Gayong Ma'arifat, Seni Silat Gayong Ghaib, Seni Silat Gayong Pancasila, Seni Silat Kegayongan Helang Putih, Seni Silat Gayong Harimau and Seni Silat Gayong Asli.

* Seni Silat Cekak.
Seni Silat Cekak originated from state of Kedah. Once was the martial arts practised by the warriors and the palace guards of the Kingdom Of Kedah espescially during the rule Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Halim Shah II. This fighting art was inherited by one of Kedah's palace knight named Panglima Ismail to Panglima Tok Rashid which was then passed down to Yahya Said. In 1965, this silat was inherited to Ustaz Haji Hanafi bin Haji Ahmad and in 1971, Silat Cekak was registered under the name of Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia and Ustaz Haji Hanafi as the Grandmaster. Since 1986, Haji Ishak bin Itam has been appointed as the Grandmaster until now.

* Seni Silat Lincah.
Seni Silat Lincah has been around for hundreds of years but was only known as Seni Silat Lincah in 1963 as Tan Sri Dato' Haji Omardin Bin Mauju became the Grandmaster. Earlier the fighting sytle was known as 'Silat Tarah', however the name was changed to Silat Lincah due to the name 'Tarah' was not suitable. Now, Persatuan Seni Silat Lincah have registered almost 1 million members all around Malaysia and have expended the arts to Europe and other foreign countries.

Actually there are more silat styles that are being practised in Malaysia. The above 3 are among the most practised. Most schools will have these silat classes for the students.
