The Flow in FMA? - 03/05/08 12:49 PM

I was hoping people here could enlighten me about the concept of "The Flow" in Filipino martial arts. I have heard about it but haven't been able to find a good definition, real world or otherwise. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Not an FMAer. But 'flow' is a universal concept in MA.

I would take it to mean a synergistic, uninterrupted ability to move from offense to defense, in varying ranges.

Matt pretty much has it on the mark.

The flow, in a technical sense, is what Matt said.

I also think of it as not simply in the sense of your flow but the flow of the "fight". You do not simply perform well, but perform well in accordance with what the opponent is trying to do to you.

Flowing with the situation, it's rythym, in other words. That's not very unique to FMA however, and my eskrima instructor points that out to me now and then.
