Beach volleyball is already in the olympics doofus wink

I really dont know why anyone would want to host the Olympics. Its a poison chalice that opens a black hole in a nations public funds, that after 3 weeks of TV coverage, leaves a large number of new amenities to be underused and become delapidated.

I think the time has come to decide upon a fixed home for the Olympics, open up the facilities in the 'off' years for all nations to train at/visit, and refine and improve as time goes on.

The way they do it at the moment is massively inefficient, environmantaly irresponsible, and just plain daft.

When Montreal hosted the olympics in 1976, the mayor said that the olympics can no more have a deficit than a man can have a baby.

The cartoonists had a riot.

Right on! A friend of a friend of a friend worked in a Government department that deals with this sort of thing.

He was speaking to a chap in Glasgow. He said Glasgow council and the Scottish Executive had a lot of remorse about taking on the Commonwealth 2014 games. The budget, like the 2012 Olympics, is starting to spiral wayyyyy out of control.

The Greek Government is paying a fortune to security firms to protect derelict sites from the 2004 games. They were constantly being attacked by vandals and had fallen in to a state of disrepair.

All this stuff that is spouted out about how the host city will recoup the costs in the aftermath of the games is utter nonsense. It is a smokescreen to justify getting the money that is being spent on the games.

Additionally, money invested in athletes is justified by stating that there is a "knock on" effect that means more people take up sport. Load of tosh. In the case of the 2012 London games, money is actually being taken OUT OF grassroots sport to help cover the massive cost of the games. That is going to hurt sport long term. I know of two local boxing clubs and a judo club that had to close in that last three years due to lack of financial support.

Brazil are also hosting the 2014 World Cup. The words biting-off-more-chew are coming to mind.
