Cataract Surgery - 11/03/06 07:47 AM

Cataract can be described as the opacification of the lens that interferes with the way in which light rays are transmitted to the retina. Most commonly associated with the aging process but can be present at birth or result from trauma to the eye.

Cataract surgery is a simple procedure, where the cloudiness from the lens of the eye is removed by replacing the lens itself. This is a fairly simple procedure for the patient and can be finished off within just a few hours. Cataract surgery not only helps the old who have lost their clarity of vision, but also children and adults who have difficulty in seeing.

Vision is usually improved the day after cataract surgery. Maximum improvement is usually achieved when new glasses are prescribed, about a month after cataract surgery.
