lets talk about magic and illusion.

David Blaine is pretty amazing. here's an easy one to figure out:

the next one can be performed and explained as whatever energy force you choose, to make the observer think you are using anything other than gravity.

this one is pretty funny, it's a trick of psychology more than dexterity.

how did he do that? lol

let me know if you want the 'secret' in how those are done- if you haven't figured em out.

1) Fake Arm
2) Not Sure
3) My guess is that the bottle with the ring in it was planted ahead of time and wasn't actually her ring. Slight of hand was used to hide both the original ring and the fake ring once the glass was broken, and used to switch the two rings before giving it back to the woman.

1. I've seen other people do this and I believe you have to be double jointed.

2. The elastic is twisted and the ring is moving on the groves of the twisted elastic like a conveyor belt giving the illusion it is defying gravity.

3. A plant in the audience for sure. Misdirection or redirection. Heck, it could be his girlfriend for all we know. I seen a show where they showed some of David Blaine's tricks not working and how he only shows those that do work on his shows. He is good though.

Re: Masters of illusion - 05/23/06 01:33 PM

the first two...nope. (fake arm w/ real hand? lol)
the 3rd one is more or less correct.

first one, twisting the arm all the way around. takes a little flexability, not much though. and a baggy shirt.

hint: when you see his arm turning, realize that it's not just turning, he's actually unwinding his arm. you assume he starts in an unwound postion and turns his arm more than 360 degrees. but he is starting with his arm aready wound.

2nd one is perspective. if the camera was looking straight on it would be obvious that one hand is higher than the other, combine that with pulling an elastic tight and it will slide.

3rd one, he lever let go of her ring.

The first one is just being double jointed, i have a friend who does it out of habit, the elastic ring, if you look carefully the hands are moving ever so slightly i think and i have no idea on the third

I can do the first one easily and I'm not double jointed. just takes a medium level of flexability.

The first one is nothing to do with doublejointedness or fake arms. His arm is twisted to begin with (in the opposite direction (hence the big long sleeves), then all he is doing is twisting it to the opposite extreme.

Criss Angel is better, he's stuck his arm through a living man and can levitate from one roof top to another, he's like David Blaine on Steroids.

How can you know that?

Telportation and walking through glass are great.
How would you explain them Ed?

Re: Masters of illusion - 05/26/06 10:56 PM

I can't explain them, so now I have NO other choice than to believe in the supernatural...since I've seen it with my own eyes.

I hereby renounce all critical thinking.

LOL, Ed, are you getting a bit paranoid? I had nothing like this in mind, although that it actually is "supernatural" like you say, might always be one of the possibilities. I was really just asking if you had an explanation for it, not saying that it was supernatural.
