Favorite Cars/Trucks/Bikes - 04/06/06 06:31 PM

I thought I'd make a post in here that I started. I also thought I'd make it a broad range so as not to leave anybody out.

For myself I have always been partial to older cars, though I do like many of the newer cars. With that said one of my favorite cars is the older Corvettes. An older girlfriend of mine's parents had one that he purchased brand new while in school that was a 64 Corvette and it was beautiful. Had the power antenna for the radio that was vertical in the dash. It was red and had the chrome pipes on both sides and rumbled beautifully. They used to take us out in this though it didn't have backseats so we sat hunched over in the little space in the back. Mind you this was in 1983 so we did not have to worry about seatbelt laws.

I also like the older Cameros and TransAms ... and I'm talking about the 60's not the garbage they threw out in the 70's and early 80's. Also like the old Dodge Challengers and other muscle cars from that era, and actually was working on a 74 Dodge Dart back in the early 80's but sold it to my cousin who trashed it.

Many other cars I really like such as Porshes and stuff, and if you were to come to my house my basement is a guys basement with car pictures on the wall, NHL Hockey banners from every team, beer ads and paraphernalia, NFL banners, hockey and football figurines, cool old toys from when I was a kid, pool table, beer/alcohol fridge, wide screen TV, surround sound system, fire place, Katana (sword), X-Box and all the stuff a guy can kick back and relax. Not to mention my weight room and bathroom complete with a 2 seater steam bath. You'll come for fun but you'll never want to leave.

Oh no's..This is officially my thread now . I am a big fan of cars, brother in law owns a shop, 2 cousins own shops, worked in shops heh. I love modern day imports more then the old schools. Fav old schools are 64 El Camino, 62 vetes. Fav modern/imports 5th generation honda civic's (I own a 95 civ/project car stripped atm w/primer all shaved up w/ custom body kit (very very clean) no engine - had b18c w/bottle 75 jets), supra's, datsun failady Z, and the Nissan Silva S14.5 is my dream car. Also gotta love the porsche 911 turbo, BMW m3/5's. Use to live in Monterey, CA which you car fanatics know is home of Laguna Seca (where I did skip barber racing school) and the Concours D'Elegance.

Stereo systems are a must, big fan of JL Audio, Eclipse, Focal, MB quart. I use to compete in the street 1-2 class, street 3-4 class, and few attempts in wall/super street 3-4 class. I did 146.8 db w/3 jla 12w6's (old ones) which beat most of the 4 guys. Ahh the good ole days of no school and dumping all my money into cars heh. My garage 2-3 car garage has all halogen lighting, overhead power extension reels, lighting reels, toolboxes, a desk for my RC cars, Marantz home stereo w/b&w speakers (in my garage lol), car/beer/women posters (some signed from sexy ass women from going to SEMA a few times) and now weight lifting equipement. I got a workshop in the back part of the garage also.

Cars and bikes are a tricky one, i love anything custom- hot rods, chops, streetfighters, one offs. Just went to 'Ink & Iron' in Birmingham- fantastic day, with custom bike show downstairs, a tattoo expo upstairs and a load of live bands and extreme piercing/body mod artists.

Best bike of the day was built around a corvette engine! the engineering was incredible, and it had a 0-60 of 1.8 seconds with 430bhp at the wheel! not to mention a kick a$$ paint job and a life size silver skull with glowing eyes for a headlight

For factory standards, I like the dodge Viper, All harley's and Victory motorcycles, and of course, the new Veyron- simply the greatest car that we will see in our lifetime (providing you have 800,000 pounds sterling to spare)

Whilst performance bikes are impressive, they just dont do anything for me. Things like the hyabusa and the R1 just arent my cup of tea.
My Dad has the new KTM SuperDuke 900cc, and that is a serious hooligan tool! i asked if he would let me loose on it, and he just laughed

Sounds like your old school Cord. Like the Viper as well, some Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, and super fast cars like that. These I have on my walls too.

Bikes, I appreciate some of the cruiser type bikes especially the ones painted up all nice and especially the ones that Orange Country Choppers (OCC) make on their show. But I'm a sport bike guy with a 2004 Katana 750, which is built more for comfort and not speed like the Yamaha R1, which my friend has but find it uncomfortable ... but easy to do wheelies on. The Hayabusa I do like and is comfortable to ride but 1300 cc's is a little too much for my liking. I'm more a GSXR600 or GSXR750 guy, which will probably be my next bike and just keep this one for comfort, and doubling my wife.

It seem cruiser type bikes and tatoos go together rather well. I have no tatoos and really have never wanted one as I did not want to mark up my skin. However over time I have thought about it and would like to get one of those hemp tatoos just so that I can see what I like. If I can wake up every day looking at it and like it still, then I may go with something like that. Probably something on the arm like the barbwire, but to be more original I would have the barwire go around the ying/yang symbol with some Korean words about strength ... and maybe a little blackbelt below it. Maybe for a graduation gift to myself. Just an idea.

Re: Favorite Cars/Trucks/Bikes - 04/07/06 01:32 AM

Diabolic, stereos are a must. I used to have stereos that cost more the the cars I owned, though nothing like what you are talking about. Most of the equipment I had was Pioneer or Alpine. I spent so much time trying to figure out how to install stereos in my own vehicles I got so good that the next thing I know I'm doing it for friends and family. But back in the 80's and early 90's it was much more simplier and now I rather just buy a new vehicle every 3 to 4 years and upgrade the systems they offer.

We used to make our own bazooka tubes because we couldn't afford the real ones. My dad owned his own cabinet making shop so my brother and I had access to a lot of tools and equipment and after painting things up they look awesome. Next thing you know friends wanted stuff too. We couldn't afford all of the expensive amps so we hooked up multiple amps and in one car we hooked up a second battery in the trunk that charged off of a larger alternator that we installed so we could blast tunes and not draw power from the actual vehicle battery.

I had bought a 1989 Ford F150 brand new and had the exhaust done. It was a 5 speed 302 and it went like snot and sounded awesome. Behind the seat I rigged up speakers and amps in sectioned off square box and when I flipped a switch underneath the dash it would kick in and you could hear me for blocks. The bass was so high you could feel it thumping in your back. Man the good old days.

My favorite car: '72 Cutlass Supreme 442, two door Cherry red with a white top. God...I loved that car! I'd take it out on the MA Pike and whenever I took it over 100 mph there would be this incredible za-zoom!

Bikes: It isn't the bike but the guy I'm riding behind that makes all the difference. Seriously, I should say Indian because of a family history with Springfield (MA) and the bike...but I like a Harley lowrider..and enjoyed some time on a Triumph Bonneville 750.

Re: Favorite Cars/Trucks/Bikes - 04/07/06 01:27 PM

Good stuff there, Cord.

I am partial to the 06 Viper (not the convertible) and the 07 Corvette Z06. 505 Hp? Oh yes.......

Bikes I am more into the cruisers, Big Dogs especially. Sport bikes rock, but they are damn near TOO fast. My buddy had a Honda CBR900 - that thing was incredibly fast. I like speed, and would probably splatter myself instantly on something like that.

I like the classic muscle cars, too. I owned a 70 Chevelle SS 350 and a 71 Monte Carlo SS 350. BADASS!!!

I loved the old Aston Martin DB7 and Vantage, and the current AM DB9. Beautiful cars.

BTW - the owner of the company that I work for owns a Boss Hoss motorcycle. Big Block V8 with nitrous. Custom trike 57 chevy rear end. Probably cost him around $90-100K US.

I asked him if he ever used the nitrous. He said "Have you lost your f#cking mind? Hell no!"

Awesome stuff Matt. Cool cars to own as well and I am envious. Agree on the 06 Viper and you are correct about the Corvette. I like the older better but I would not pass up the opportunity for the newer either ... beautiful.

You are correct without a doubt. The fastest I've gone was 230 Kilometers/Hour (142 Miles/Hour). I was taking my bike in for its year end service and my friend was following behind me in his Mitsubiushi Lancer that he's been working on increasing the Horse Power like the movie the "Fast & Furious" (or was it 2?). My wife and his girlfriend were also with him and I punched out and he said he could not keep up with me ... and that car goes. I had to stop otherwise I would have been going faster as cars in front of my were taking up both lanes and I couldn't pass. Wife gave me severe crap afterwards.

Normally I'm scared to death to drive these speeds but that one time it all felt right and ... ZOOM ... off I went. Will I do that again ... probably not. I recently had to go to court to fight a Photo Radar Ticket that was for going 129 km in a 80 km zone (80 miles in a 50 zone) that I got the day after my birthday in September. Cost me over a $100 after being reduced ... as all photo radars get reduced if you fight them. Can't be paying for stupid mistakes like this.

Dereck,

Anything with wheels wiil do.

From the unmistakable feel of an old mustang to the quick darting of a MG or the thump thump of a Harley.

I love them all. I sometimes dream of some old ride I owned and wonder how I ever sold it. My brother called today and said he sold our Morris travler -- how could he--
Sure it was not worth rebuilding but thats just crap.

Nowdays I just don't have time to work on old cars so my latest ride is a 04 Mini Copper S.

You did'nt say what you drive?

Re: Favorite Cars/Trucks/Bikes - 04/10/06 01:17 AM

I'm not a motor head, but I'll just throw in my only cool car... My first car (we always remember our first) was a '72 plymouth fury. It was an auctioned cop car with a bad off-white paint job - you could still see the under coat police designations as a watermark. On one hand it kinda suucked because everytime I'd get behind someone they'd slow down....on the other hand, the huge 5-1/2 foot bench of a backseat gave a most comfortable ride for two.

It was laid to rest when a piston nearly blew thru the hood while cruising at 95mph.

Here's the run down.

In October/November of 1985 I purchased my first vehicle a dark green 77 Chevy Monza. A 5.0L 302 V8 from a Mustang had been dropped into it but it didn't fit right on the motor mounts and was rather large for the car so every once and a while the fan belt would come off due to it wasn't aligned properly. It went fast as it was such as small car and sounded awesome when the air intake opened up.

I didn't have that long when I purchased in late December a 1985 red 77 Pontiac Sunbird. 4 cylinder piece of crap (got taken) but I put this through its paces. I drove it across fields, up on lawns, through snow banks ... you name it. I had that thing screaming over 100 miles an hour and even blew a cylinder.

I was working at a Mohawk gas station at that time and in the summer of 1986 I traded this with the mechanic for a lime green 74 Dodge Dart with a 5.2L 318 V8 . This was like no other Dart as the back seat turned down flat and also opened into the trunk ... made for a good place to (you know) during "drive-in" theatres. It had Craiger Mags and I started to fix it up and had bought two new quarter panels and with the help of my girlfriend's father (she's now my wife), I was doing the body work myself. Did some minor engine modifications and was working on lifting the back end up with "pucks" (we did that back then). I never did finish it and eventuall sold it to my cousin to restore it but instead he destroyed it.

My next vehile in 1988 I purchased off of my parents for 1/2 price as my father owed me for working under the table for him. It was a silver 2 door 81 Pontiac Phoenix. I loved this car. It started no matter how cold it was, had a sunroof and had a 2.8L V6. Like all of my cars I installed a Pioneer Stereo system with amps and speakers and I'd cruise with the sunroof open so everybody could hear me.

Meantime I had a good job and in 1989 I bought my first brand new vehicle a 5-speed two-tone silver/grey 1989 Ford F150 single cab long box with a 5.0L V8. I put in dual exhaust and another Pioneer sound system with amps and speakers. My wife (girlfriend at the time) was living with me and I gave her the Phoenix as she didn't have a car. We moved to another apartment so she always walked and the car sat around doing nothing so I sold it to my brother who destroyed it and then sold it.

In 1991 we were going to start a family and knew the truck would not do so I traded it in for a new 2-door red/burgandy 91 Chevy Beretta. It was a 5 speed and had a 3.1L V6 and she cruised well with 140 hp. I drove this thing for 10 years and was just under 100,000 km (62,000 miles).

In the meantime my wife was driving a piece of crap Ford Escort that her parents gave her so in 1999 I bought her a used 4-door 1997 Chevy Cavalier which she still drives to this day. As I'm the one who drives everywhere we go, and it takes her only 5 minutes to get to work, she has hardly put on any kilometers so with regular maintenance it still drive good. We donated the Escort, after doing some minor work to it, to a woman, single parent, with two kids that had no vehicle.

In 2001 I traded the Beretta in for a new black 4-door 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4. It was last year's stock and got for a great price. It had a 4.0L 200 hp V6. It was a great vehicle but I found it not to practical as I couldn't load up my lawn mower, or gasoline, or pick up stuff without having it in the cab with me. It was good for camping but not practical for the stuff I need.

In 2004 I traded it in for what I have now which is a tan 4-door 2004 Ford Sportrac XLT 4x4 with the 4.0L V6 and 210 hp. More practical with the box on the back. I got the towing package with the extra radiator. Has the box cover, step up rails, moonroof and all of the fixings with the exception of leather.

That same year I purchased outright a gun metal grey 750cc 2004 Suzuki GSX750F Katana.

Last year I modified the back end taking off the mud flap and put on a new muffler and exhaust system. Now it really rumbles and screams.

Re: Favorite Cars/Trucks/Bikes - 04/10/06 02:39 AM

I've had many cars,sports cars,trucks,you name it.
My favorite was an ol' 1977Jeep Wagoneer with a 360 four barrel and full time 4wheel drive. At a little over 4000lbs it got excellent gas mileage, lol, maybe 8! But it could haul ass through the mud. If you didn't bottom out you wouldn't get stuck,I tried many times. I liked to wench out guys in their little toyota's.
Had to sell it last year due to financial reasons. I should post a pic! later......

Re: Favorite Cars/Trucks/Bikes - 04/11/06 01:57 AM

My favorites would be most anything that's fast. I like a lot of older muscle cars and a lot of the new sports cars. My favorite oldies would have to be any vette between '63-'82, any camaro up to '81, '68 charger and the 70-74 challenger. I like the 05 and up vettes and mustangs too. I'm not too thrilled with what Dodge did to the charger but the new challenger will be nice as will the new camaro. I'm not much on imports though there are a couple i like. Not too big on trucks either but wouldn't mind having one. I just don't see the point in jacking a daily driver 6 inches in the air when you live in an apartment. Same goes for the daily driver baja trucks. My father-in-law has a 69 Maserati i wouldn't mind prying loose from him.

Oh, and choppers. Can't stand crotch rockets.

Re: Favorite Cars/Trucks/Bikes - 04/11/06 02:11 AM

The funny thing is i've never been much for Fords but now i drive an 04 Mustang (mostly because they quit making the Camaro). Unfortunately due to insurance reasons i had to get a V6 But after seeing all the trash talking most of the v8 guys talk to others i've decided to keep my V6 (at least until the new Camaro or Challenger comes out) and stroke out the engine to a 4.4 and add a supercharger boosting 11psi and throw in a few other mods which will put me well in the mid 300rwhp range if not a little higher. Then watch the stocker V8s cry when they get their paint pealed back by a V6. Then i'll scrap it and start fresh with a real car.
