Jumping, without the rope...

Jumping, without the rope... - 12/20/07 07:48 PM

I currently have no jump rope in my possession or even a substitute for it. My question is "Does jumping without the jump rope yield the same results as if I were to be holding one?"

With the same speed, intensity, timing, and focus, of course.

The rope just provides a foil. It lets you know when you are doing it wrong.

But my question is... is a jump rope that difficult for you to acquire?

It is not the jump rope that is hard to acquire it is the skill to jump the rope. I could never do it... any tips?

Ok, you were asking about jumping without a rope...

Is there anyone in your area with the necessary means to teach you?

Forum members note: Yes, this is another way of saying

Yes. Buy a $5 jump rope and practice. If I can learn how to jump rope, ANYONE can learn to jump rope. No one on this entire planet is less coordinated or athletically inclined than me. And yes, the workout is slightly different with the rope. Your upper body has to work against the centrifigual force of the rope. Not much, but more than if there is no rope.

Start slow, and be patient. Or in my case, VERY PATIENT.

The rope, it whips me like a whip. I feel like am in bondage with a dominatrix. I must endure.. Hopefully, I get this jump-roping thing down in a month.

where appropriate footwear trainers (sneekers?) as well I've skipped bare foot for the past year and it gave me horrendous shinsplints so i dont skip for now and shadow-box instead until i can gradually build up the tendons.

Also make sure the rope is the correct length, stand on the middle of the rope with both feet together, pull the handles up to your side they should reach just under your armpits

Good point about rope length. I'm 5'11"/177cm, and I use an 8.5'/245cm rope. Any longer, and I trip over it like a little kid.

Yeah.. My sister, I wonder if she'll think less of me as a man.

Is there not even a boxing/kickboxing club nearby? They are almost sure to use a skipping/jump rope, or know how to use it. It doesn't take long to pick it up if you keep practicing.
