14 oz or 16 oz - Boxing Gloves - 06/17/06 10:38 AM

I bought some 16oz Boxing gloves.. Just for sparring with my cousin and dad ( my dad works and has had meningitis and a bad car accident so I dont wanna hurt him, and make him not be able to work.. my cousin is just because we'd rather use gloves then bare knuckle each other ). So anyway I was just wondering how much more protection would the 16oz offer over the 14oz? I was thinking of returning the 16oz and getting 14oz because they weren't as wide, and I think it would be a lot easier to practice technique when the glove is closer to actual fist size.

The difference is marginal, I suggest you be a man and stick with the 16s. Go easy on your dad.

Yeah, stick with the 16oz gloves for now. The main thing is consistent training. That means you have to emphasize safety.

Just keep your hands open inside your gloves and you'll be fine.

I bought some MMA gloves and some 12 oz boxing gloves. Learn control before you go in and try to start punching on people. I also have the karate/TKD sparring crap too but it tears to easy

14oz is fine. the real issue is to just simply not hit hard. the goal should be the development of the technique, not how hard you can hit.

also invest in some head gear. this helps a lot. i strongly recommend it.
