Shotokan Based Ryu - 09/23/13 06:18 AM

All,

I discovered from other Forums about 2 styles I'd not heard of before, Now I wonder what their ethics and ethos is as looking a at their Kata list it seems that they have a massive amount of Kata there

We have

Asai Ryu Karate - details of the Founder etc Tetsuhiko Asai Sensei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuhiko_Asai)

and
Gosoku Ryu - details of Ryu & founder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gosoku-ryu)

What are your thoughts

In the findings of this one can also include Kyokushin as a Shotokan based Ryu but more extreme

Yes Harlan, I read that thread and that's why I asked this question

There are many schools ShotoKan based but are not really shotokan.

Kyokushin
Go Kan Ryu
Wado Ryu
Asai Ryu
Gosoku Ryu

Are just a few . Why are so different? Did the Founders train with each other? Are their similarities actuallly ot that similar? Why is there differences and why is Kyokushin so hardcore even compared to Gosoku Ryu etc?
