Where is a good karate dojo in dallas tx? - 03/01/10 09:11 PM

I'm thinking about getting into karate again and I need a good dojo. The style is Shorin ryu I did it for about a month at my local community center but I was distracted and stopped going.
I got fukyugata 1 down so I'm a complete newbie. any suggestions will help.

p.s anything near carrollton, garland, or plano would help to.

What is your interest? Some dojos stress different things, are you interested in Competition? Self defense? Personal improvemeent, fitness, weapon training?

Some dojos train all these aspects others touch upon them and stress one or the other. Shorin-ryu is a very diverse disclipne with a wide spectrum of interest.

Off hand I'd recommend the Eizo Shimabukuro Okinawan Karate in Texas and North Carolina or Sensei Doug Perry's Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate and Kobudo Dojo in in Hendersonville, NC.

There are a lot of good Shprin-ryu schools in the 3 areas you mentioned.

Thanks, it's really more for self-improvement than self defence. I'm 17 and I've been a pretty avid street fighter for most of my life and now that I am older it can get me into alot of trouble. I want to get back into karate to refine my-self not to learn how to fight I already know how to do that.
