Does anyone know who Nick Cerio is? What do you know about his kenpo? Have you ever trained with him? What is your opinion of his kenpo and approach to self defense?

He passed away 8 years ago. he started a branch of his own version of American Kenpo here in New England. from what I've seen, they are centered around participating in local tournaments, although that was the 80's and I haven't seen what they've been doing since. I've watched their local demonstrations before (again, in the 80's), they were superficial and mcdojo-ish.

I guess it could be good now, or perhaps I only saw the only 2 bad schools it has....but I never paid attention to it after seeing it demonstrated.

I studied Cerio kenpo for 2 years at the begining of my martial arts studies. At the time I was very impressed. Of course it is easy to impress a white belt with no experience. When I look back I see the school I was in was very very violent. We would learn techniques for breaking a bouncers neck when you are being escorted from a bar. Now when I was a stupid 18 year old white belt i though this was the coolest thing in the world. But now that I am older,i look back and realise that that school had some issues.
