-hi, i have been practicing kobudo for a while now and was wondering, since that my sensei is also a karate teacher, should i also take up karate or can i just keep to plain kobujutsu???

What do you want?

I would say expand. Is a striker better off for learning grappling...yes. Is a MMA fighter better off learning weaponary? Yes...so you are better off starting out in at elast what is a striking art.

You should find many aspects of the arts similar. That said, there are a few more issues that require clarification before an informed opinion can be given...

You're learning kobudo...which weapon(s)?
Do you practice kata only?
Do you plan to approach karate the same way or do you plan to spar?
Which style (karate) are you interested in?
Is it a traditional style or something like XMA?
