This probably has no relevance but Ryu, Ken, and Akuma, from StreetFighter, studied a martial art with a very similiar spelling.

I find the opposite, a lot of people try Shotokan but find it to demanding they want something that is not as hard.

not as hard shotokan is unbeleivably easy. I have a freind that has been doin it for10 years and i can beat him in less than a minute. I have never been trained in it but i have seen competitions and when you fight technique goes out the window you panick and flail. Its not a real martial art it specialises in kata its more dancing than fighting.

well you have not been in the right company. I assure you Shotokan is a real martial art and is not easy. We train full contact with control, and the only ones I have ever seen panic and flail are our opponents. Trust me the kata are deadly not much of a dance. What style do you study? Not knowing your abilities I can not speak on your coment in beating your openent in less than a minute. If your friend trains in Shotokan and at a poor school his sparring ability may not be what it should be. If I were you I would not recomand keeping that attitude in ring with any one from my area you may be very surprised.

Shotokan is anything but easy. That person that said they beat their must not have all the facts. A real shotokan student is very good at fighting, yes the katas are good but we can kick ass when necessary. You should fight a real shotokan student then you'll see
