Researching: carved nunchaku symbol

Hello, I am researching a pair of nunchaku. I haven't seen anything like this before. It has a symbol of an 8 petal flower-like symbol carved on the bottom of the wood nunchakus. (unsure of the maker, place, or time period it was made) Any ideas would be helpful, thank you/nifee debiru.
