A question one the better material - 09/27/11 02:50 PM

Hey people!

Just wondering, for a forest hunting knife, which would be the better material for it, the 420 j2 or the 440c stainless steel?

I know nothing about various grades of iron/steel.
A knife on which your life might depend should not be permitted to rust, thereby losing its edge and cutting ability. But, it should be tough enough to hold an edge and not so brittle that it will snap.

440C is better as a general use hunting knife as it is harder, and so will keep an edge better.

Here's an interesting site that discusses the advantages of various knife steels ... http://zknives.com/knives/articles/knifesteelfaq.shtml

The 420 j2 one is better.
