My new weapon - 04/01/06 07:00 PM
I just finished the next in my line of maple kobudo weapons. I've made a pair of nunchaku, a bo, and the newest addition are my tonfa. The handle I turned on my lathe, but my lathe is one of those small project kinds so I ended up shaping the main body entirely by spokeshave. I bought a brand new spokeshave for the task (dont tell my wife!) and it made the job a million times easier. There is something really satisfying about nearly transparent wood shavings curling out of a new tool while youre making something that you will get a lot of use out of.

And here is the ebony wedged tenon:

The wedged tenon was a little more work to cut but the joint is more rock solid than any other joint I have ever cut. I really think this could take some serious impact and not come away wobbly.
