I was reading a post earlier made about some comic book style claws. now i know that they are just imaginary, but i think that the ninja actually had something kind of similar to it.

http://www.karatedepot.com/wp-ni-12.html

they had a few claws in the palm of the hand so thet you could climb up trees or wodden objects easier.

they even had foot spikes to aid the hand claws in climbing.

im sure that this isnt too big of a suprise, but i found it somewhat interesting.

Yes, shuko as a weapon egzisted in old japan.

I believe it was an invention of Togakure ryu school of ninjutsu.

It is taught today in Bujinkan budo taijutsu.

They weren't so much an invention of togakure ryu as they were an adaptation.

If I remember correctly, shuko were originally used for picking up chopped down trees/logs on the ground. I would imagine they were also used to help climb trees. The foot claws (ashiko) would have also been used for improving climbing grip.

Of course the benefits of using those in a combat situation are obvious..

Yes, I believe that you corrected me correctly.

I gotta pair of them when I bought my Tabi boots. There OK, but not that effective. Can deliver devestating kicks though ^^
